 WAEC Releases 2026 WASSCE Results as 61.54% of Candidates Earn Five Credits Including English and Mathematics

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially released the results of the 2026 Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for school candidates.


According to WAEC, 1,200,514 candidates, representing 61.54% of those who sat for the examination, obtained five credits or more, including English Language and Mathematics. This marks a 1.42% decrease compared to the performance recorded in 2025. 


2026 WAEC Results at a Glance


Total candidates registered: 1,959,668


Total schools: 24,207


Countries involved: Nigeria, Benin Republic, Côte d'Ivoire, and Equatorial Guinea


Candidates who sat the examination: 1,950,726


Candidates with at least five credits (including English & Mathematics): 1,200,514 (61.54%)


Candidates with at least five credits (with or without English & Mathematics): 1,687,378 (86.50%) 


Female Candidates Outperformed Male Candidates


WAEC revealed that among candidates who obtained the required five credits, including English Language and Mathematics:


Male: 558,883 (28.65%)


Female: 641,631 (32.89%)



Overall participation was:


Male candidates: 953,459 (48.88%)


Female candidates: 997,267 (51.12%)



Results Released and Still Being Processed


WAEC confirmed that:


1,834,695 candidates (94.05%) have had their results fully processed and released.


116,031 candidates (5.95%) are still awaiting processing. 



Candidates with Special Needs


A total of 1,213 candidates with special needs registered for the examination, including:


137 visually impaired candidates


491 hearing-impaired candidates


55 spastic/mentally challenged candidates


41 physically challenged candidates



WAEC reiterated its commitment to ensuring equal access to examinations for all candidates.


WAEC Withholds 167,486 Results Over Examination Malpractice


WAEC announced that the results of 167,486 candidates (8.59%) have been withheld due to alleged examination malpractice.


According to the Council, this represents an improvement from 9.7% recorded in 2025.


The Council also expressed concern over:


Increasing use of mobile phones in examination halls.


Organized examination malpractice in some schools.


Supervisors and invigilators allegedly assisting candidates during examinations.



Those found guilty will face disciplinary action through their respective State Ministries of Education. 

WAEC Confirms Continued Computer-Based WASSCE


The Head of WAEC's Nigeria National Office, Amos Josiah Dangut, stated that the 2026 examination was the second Computer-Based WASSCE conducted for school candidates in Nigeria.


He also noted that this would be his third and final media briefing as Head of the WAEC Nigeria National Office.
